In the wake of a remarkable landslide victory in the recent Haryana elections, the BJP is setting its sights on the upcoming by-elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The party plans to replicate its successful electoral strategy by intensifying its outreach to the Other Backward Classes (OBC), a crucial voter demographic that has demonstrated significant support for the BJP in Haryana.
The shift in leadership in Haryana, with Nayab Singh Saini replacing Manohar Lal Khattar as Chief Minister, has been hailed as a key factor in the BJP’s success.
Saini’s appointment resonated strongly with OBC voters, contributing to a substantial surge in support for the party. In light of this success, the BJP is determined to implement a similar strategy in Uttar Pradesh, where over 50 percent of the electorate belongs to the OBC category.
To bolster this initiative, the BJP’s Backward Class Morcha is set to launch a series of focused campaigns across the state. These efforts will aim to reinforce the message that the party is firmly committed to OBC rights and reservations, alleviating any concerns voters may have about their status.
Party insiders reveal that recent discussions between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP have centered on dispelling misconceptions regarding OBC rights, with RSS publicity chief Sunil Ambekar playing a pivotal role in shaping this outreach.
BJP state spokesperson Alok Awasthi highlighted the party’s inclusive strategy, stating, “In Haryana, we made an effort to stand with all 36 communities. The result was a resounding defeat for the Congress. We intend to maintain this approach in future elections, ensuring that all communities feel represented. Our goal is to continue earning the public’s trust and support.”
As the BJP prepares for the by-elections, there is a palpable sense of urgency to connect with OBC voters on the ground.
The party is determined to ensure that this demographic feels acknowledged and empowered, fostering a sense of loyalty and affiliation.
With Haryana’s electoral success fresh in their minds, the BJP’s strategy in Uttar Pradesh could significantly reshape the political landscape, as the party strives to fortify its position and maintain the momentum gained from its recent triumph.
Notably, the BJP defied early trends and won 48 seats in Haryana, while the Congress managed to muster only 37 seats in the 90-member Assembly.
